Organic Week Is One of Our Favourite Times of the Year!
The Canadian Health Food Association, Canadian Organic Growers, and the Canadian Organic Trade Association organize Organic Week every September. Between September 12 and September 18, we emphasize sharing information about why choosing organic foods is good for your health and the environment.
Here are the top five reasons you should shop organic:
Organic Food Helps You Avoid Pesticide Exposure
When you choose organic, you are opting out of using chemical pesticides on your food, which is a danger to the environment and your health. It depletes the soil nutrition needed for the fruit and vegetables to grow rich in vitamins and minerals.
Eating Organic Keeps Genetically Engineered Organisms (GMOs) Out of Your Food
When you buy organic, you opt out of Genetically Modified Organisms entirely! By definition, organic foods can not contain GMOs either in the product itself or livestock feed for organic animal farming.

Organic Farming Mitigates Climate Change
When we choose organic, Mother Earth strives in a way that conventional farming tends to hinder. Organic agriculture contributes to healthy soil because the practices allow for more nutrient-dense soil. This results in healthier microbiology of the soil.
Organic Farming Also Promotes Biodiversity
Thanks to the absence of chemicals, organic farming preserves the nutrients in soils that are necessary and important for the life and development of thousands of insects and plant species. Organically farmed land remains fertile for generations, unlike the land used by industrial agriculture, which quickly becomes poor.
