Be Greener This Earth Month: Simple Things That Make a Huge Difference

April is earth month! We take time to try and find different ways to celebrate our planet and all that it provides for us during this time. The earth provides perfect conditions for human life to flourish.

Still, due to our increasing numbers, technological advances, overuse of resources, and lack of concern for where waste is being dumped, we create an imbalance.

How do I be more conscious of Earth Month and help sustain our planet, you ask? Here are a few pointers:

Protecting Our Watersheds

A watershed is an area of land drained by a river or stream. It is an essential resource for both people and wildlife because they supply clean drinking water and irrigation.

We can help protect the watersheds by conserving water, eliminating toxic household products/not pouring them down the drains, recycling yard waste and not over-applying fertilizers.

Switching to Reusable (or Compostable) Bags

Plastic bags are not easily spoiled and primarily affect our environment due to the amount of time they take to break down completely. The price for recycling plastic bags is greater than the value of the bags themselves. A way to avoid contributing to this issue is by utilizing reusable bags when you are shopping.

We have an array of reusable bags you can choose from! We also offer certified compostable bags. After you carry your groceries home, it can be used as a liner in your wood waste bin for municipal compost.

Utilize Sustainable Products

There are many different products in which we can switch out for a more sustainable approach. Things like straws, plastic water bottles, plastic wrap, styrofoam cups, and plastic food storage containers contribute to the world’s waste problem.

You can substitute these products for reusable straws and water bottles, beeswax wrap, reusable cups and glass food storage containers. These simple everyday improvements and make a huge difference. They can also be purchased at any of our stores.

These seemingly small changes add up a significant impact not only on our lives but on the lives of the future generations to come. Being conscious of this is one of the first steps in the right direction. We must help our earth thrive and prosper!
